In the world of metal cutting, tooling costs typically account for only a tiny fraction of total manufacturing expenses. Yet, they hold the key to machine utilization, yield rates, and overall delivery schedules. Recently, a domestic precision mold factory successfully broke through its machining efficiency bottlenecks by introducing high-hardness tungsten steel end mills from Shandong Yunfei, combined with in-depth cutting parameter optimization. This strategic shift has led to comprehensive quality improvements and a significant reduction in hidden costs across their production line.
The factory had long struggled with machining high-hardness mold steels. After thoroughly evaluating the machine's rigidity and the workpiece material, the technical team at Yunfei recommended a counter-intuitive approach: slightly reducing the spindle speed while substantially increasing the feed per tooth.
Field tests confirmed that under these optimized parameters, the service life of the end mills was extended exponentially, drastically reducing the frequency of tool changes. More importantly, the smoother cutting process actually improved the surface finish of the workpieces, effectively minimizing the need for subsequent polishing. By shifting from "brute force" machining to "precision matching," the factory achieved a remarkable boost in overall profitability across multiple dimensions, including reduced downtime, lower scrap rates, and saved post-processing costs.
